Best Remedies for Treating Acne

There are enough companies around, offering remedies for treating acne. They may claim that their products can restore the skin’s baby soft texture. However, the effectiveness of most treatments depends on how well any given treatment suits the specific type of skin of the patient. Skin sensitivity shows a wide range of variation in individuals, and different types of treatments work for different skins.

Treatment helps in controlling acne either by destroying the bacteria, reducing the secretion of sebum, or by opening the clogged pores. Either of these can affect a cure in isolation or in varying combinations. Despite these effects of remedial measures, the fact remains that there is, as yet, no foolproof way of treating the problem. The available therapies are effective for different types of acne. Some are effective on cystic or mild acne. Others work well with whiteheads or blackheads. And the upshot of the treatment will depend a lot on the skin type of the user as well. That is the difficulty with acne treatment.

Benzoyl peroxide is very effective in healing acne. The medication Proactiv contains this compound. Even in mild doses, it destroys acne bacteria in one or two weeks. It is a proven method where marked changes in skin condition have been observed in many cases. The downside of this compound is that repeated use tends to make a person immune to its potency. Continued use also results in skin damage. Because of these, though it works reasonably well with those who are first-time victims, it is ineffective in chronic or even comparatively severe cases.

Another suggested medication for acne is salicylic acid. This is similar to benzoyl peroxide in many attributes. A concentration of not less than 2.5% to a maximum of 5% in a base is found to produce good results. Salicylic acid helps by removing dead cells which tend to clog the pores. More and more recent users seem to prefer salicylic acid to benzoyl as it is less damaging to the skin. Though it is by and large more effective than benzoyl, it is also ineffective in severe cases.

Oral drugs are also used as remedies for treating acne. B-5 Vitamins have been found to produce good results, and so does Accutane. These drugs mainly work by controlling sebum secretion, so that the skin dries up comparatively fast. The upshot of oral medication has been good even in persistent types of acne. Nevertheless, even this has not been very helpful in treating whiteheads and blackheads.

There is no dearth of remedies in the market for curing acne. Still, a person should know how these treatments work. He should also know which of the remedies for treating acne is suitable to his specific type of skin. The condition can be controlled as long as a person buys a suitable medicine after doing his home work properly. He should, however, be careful not to get carried away by marketing hypes.
